Photoscape
There are few applications out there that I can say I truly love; the MOII TECH-developed photo editor Photoscape is definitely one of them. I simply love this application and the functionality it has to offer. And most of all, I love the fact that it is offered free of charge. It offers heaps of functionality and doesn’t ask for any money in return, which to my mind is great.
The developer does accept donations though, and I’m sure any Photoscape user out there would be more than happy to donate and support the development of this phenomenal application.
I kept mentioning Photoscape’s functionality above. Now I would like to talk a little bit about what you can do with this application. I will try to keep it short because there is a lot to say. The most basic task the Photoscape application does is its displays your photos/images. You can view the photos you took on your vacation, the photos you downloaded off the web, or any other image your may have on your computer.
If you’re not happy with an image, you can easily edit it with Photoscape – this is where Photoscape shines. With it you can make color adjustments, resize an image, add frames, add balloons, add text, draw something on top of an image, remove red eyes, combine several photos into one, slice an image into several pieces, crop an image, apply various filters, and so on. On top of Photoscape’s serious editing chops comes this extra bit of functionality: it can batch edit photos. And since we’re talking about performing tasks in batch, it must be said that Photoscape can batch rename photos.
If you have a few images that you think would go well together, would create an interesting animation, then you need to know that Photoscape can do that. It can turn photos into an animated GIF.
I promised I would make this short and I aim to do that. On top of all the bits and pieces presented above, Photoscape can also: print photos, convert RAW to JPG, make a screen capture and save it, and find similar faces on the web (face search).
I have to honestly say that there’s no other free application out there that offers as much functionality as Photoscape does. Sure, you could argue that Photoshop is better, but Photoshop comes with a rather hefty price tag. Photoscape does a lot, is easy to use, and it’s offered free of charge.
